About Derek Hoffman
Derek was born and raised in Sioux Falls, where he attended the University of Sioux Falls to study Criminal Justice and the Social Sciences. In 2017 he was awarded Social Science Student of the Year and graduated magna cum laude. Derek then earned his Juris Doctorate from the University of South Dakota School of Law.
Before joining Myers Billion, Derek began his career with the Minnehaha County Public Defender’s Office. There, he gained extensive courtroom experience while defending hundreds of felony and misdemeanor-level offenses.
While at the Public Defender’s Office he continued his legal education by attending additional training courses and seminars. These areas of continued legal education focused on jury trial arts and skills.
Derek is an avid outdoorsman. When not practicing law, you can find him outdoors fishing, camping, backpacking, hiking, and hunting. His favorite aspects of being at the firm include the atmosphere and size of the firm, as well as the diversity of practice areas that Myers Billion covers.
