Stacy F. Kooistra joined the firm in
2007 after having practiced with a law firm in Spearfish, South Dakota.
Stacys primary areas of practice are civil and commercial litigation
including family law, contract law, construction law and general civil litigation
matters. Stacys law practice also includes criminal defense, personal
injury and business issues.
Prior to practicing law, Stacy served
as a U.S. Army Military Intelligence Officer on active duty and in the South
Dakota National Guard, rising to the rank of Captain. Stacy is currently
an officer in the South Dakota Air National Guard. Stacy also has experience
as an active duty enlisted soldier, business manager and professional basketball
player in Sweden.
In addition to his military service,
Stacy is active in the State Bar and community including service on the Young
Lawyers Board of Directors, volunteering at the Union Gospel Mission, membership
in the American Legion and serving as Assistant Chairman of the Minnehaha
County Board of Mental Illness. Stacy formerly served on the Board of Directors
for the Artemis House, a domestic violence shelter in Spearfish.
In law school, Stacy was the recipient
of the Edwin J. Hadd Memorial Scholarship, a member of the Deans List
and a graduate assistant for both the South Dakota Board of Regents and
Department of Political Science. Stacy was also an active member of the Great
Plains Natural Resources Journal (GPNRJ). In 2003, his article entitled "United
States v. Rapanos: The Future of Wetlands Jurisdiction Has Arrived" was published
and the following year Stacy served as a Case Note Editor.
In his free time, Stacy enjoys spending
time with his wife Anna and their two children, Isabel and Oscar.
