Scott N. Peters Scott N. Peters is of counsel, a retired partner in the firm, with a focus on family and business planning, including the preparation of wills, powers of attorney and living wills, contracts, leases, guardianships, probates, Social Security disability issues, and debtor/creditor law. Scott has also served as the Chair of the Minnehaha County Board of Mental Illness since 1986.

Following graduation from the University of South Dakota Law School in 1980, Scott served a two-year term as Law Clerk to United States District Judge John B. Jones in Sioux Falls.

Scott, assisting another local Sioux Falls attorney, appeared before the United States Supreme Court in the case of United States v. Austin, which established, for the first time, that civil forfeitures can violate the “excessive fines” clause of the Eighth Amendment to the United States Constitution.

Scott and his wife, Dr. Patricia Peters, a family practice physician at McGreevy Clinic, Sioux Falls, have three children, and have enjoyed raising Leader Dog puppies to serve as future guide dogs for the blind.
